Multi-Level Event Registration

As the lead user experience designer, I was tasked with designing a new event registration feature for our alumni platform, WakeNetwork. The goal of this project was to take our previous solution, a custom PHP form, and rebuild it into a seamless, user-friendly registration process for event attendees that would also provide valuable information for event organizers.

Research

I conducted extensive user research to understand the pain points and needs of both attendees and organizers. I surveyed event attendees to understand their current registration experiences, and held focus groups with event organizers to understand the information they wanted to collect from attendees.

User Flows

After auditing our current solution I worked with my product team to create extensive user flows that would later inform the design, and ensure we did not miss any crucial functionality.

Design Process

Based on my research, I created a user-centered design that focused on simplicity and speed. The registration process was designed to be intuitive and easy to complete, with clear instructions and helpful prompts.

I also added features to make the process more engaging, such as real-time updates on the number of spots left and the ability to add multiple attendees at once. To collect valuable information for event organizers, I designed a customizable form that event organizers could use to gather information specific to their event.

Usability Testing

I conducted several rounds of usability testing with both attendees and event organizers to ensure that the new event registration feature was easy to use and provided the information that organizers needed. Based on feedback from users, I made several iterations to the design to improve the overall user experience.

Launch

After several rounds of testing and iteration, the new event registration feature was launched to positive reviews from both attendees and event organizers. Attendees appreciated the simplicity and speed of the registration process, and event organizers appreciated the valuable information that was collected.

Conclusion

The new event registration feature was a success, achieving its goal of creating a seamless, user-friendly registration process for attendees while also providing valuable information for event organizers. The success of this project demonstrated the importance of conducting thorough research and testing to ensure that design solutions meet the needs of all users.
